We are looking for a highly motivated, resourceful, and dynamic individual who is keen to work within a growing organisation as we prepare for Galway’s year as European Capital of Culture 2020 and build on the exciting opportunities on the horizon.
This is a full-time role in a busy creative company. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in producing and managing cultural programmes and events. The role is broad, with room for development, and it will evolve over time. The successful candidate will be working closely together with the Executive Creative Director, as well as being offered training and development if required.

Galway Community Circus is Ireland’s flagship organisation for youth and social circus, located in the heart of Galway City with a local, national and international remit. Our mission is to unlock personal and creative potential and deliver social inclusion for young people through circus arts. Through our ground-breaking programmes and high-quality productions, Galway Community Circus has proven itself to be a cradle of artistic excellence and educational innovation in Ireland, working with over 500 young people from diverse backgrounds every week.
This is an incredibly exciting time to join Galway Community Circus as we are exploring innovative new models of creative engagement and are at the forefront of developing youth and social circus in Ireland and internationally. We are producing one of the anchor projects of Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture Programme; Wires Crossed - a Balancing Act for Europe. This is a large-scale European project promoting mental and physical wellbeing and community integration through the art of funambulism (tightwire walking). This project gives us an opportunity to create a significant legacy for the young people of Galway, Ireland and Europe.
About Wires Crossed Project
Wires Crossed – A Balancing Act for Europe is an international participatory circus project poised to transform lives and communities – from locations throughout Galway to cities across Europe – through the art of tightwire walking, or funambulism. Funambulism is a spectacular circus art that is accessible to people of all ages and abilities, and a powerful mindfulness tool that promotes mental and physical well-being. Walking on a wire conveys a sense of ease and simplicity, yet it requires balance, self-control and courage. Wires Crossed is set to bring the dynamic art of funambulism to different corners of Europe through a partnership between nine European youth and social circus schools and an extensive outreach and public engagement programme. The key event of the project is an international circus festival and a world-record funambulism spectacle in August 2020 when 400 participants of various ages, walks of life, cultures, nationalities and abilities will cross the River Corrib and Claddagh Pool on tightwires over 2020 minutes.
About the Role
The role of Producer is a new position in the company and an opportunity for the right person to get involved in one of the most exciting projects in the Galway 2020 calendar. Galway Community Circus is a young, dynamic and growing company with an energetic, collaborative and skilled team where people work hard but also get to play, grow and develop. As Producer of GCC, you will be a key team member working closely with the Executive Creative Director and the project team to produce Wires Crossed according to the project development plan and GCC’s Strategic Plan 2018-2020.
Oversee the production of Wires Crossed; working closely with the ECD, international partners, Production Manager and the technical and artistic teams.

Who You Are
- You are an experienced Producer in the arts sector who believes in GCC’s values and vision, loves a challenge and feels excited about the ambition and potential of Wires Crossed
- You are a positive dynamic team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills that help you navigate complex projects with multiple partners, artists and diverse audiences
- You are reliable and hard-working with strong leadership ability and the capacity to motivate and manage a team
- You can solve problems, put plans into action and deliver successful projects
- You have excellent organisational, administrative, IT and project management skills – you love getting things in order and can make things happen with maximum efficiency
- You are able to work under pressure, prioritising between conflicting demands and retaining attention to detail while maintaining good humour and diplomacy
- You are solution-focused - you show initiative and resilience when dealing with change
The person who can fulfil this role will have:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a production role in the arts, media, or entertainment industries
- Experience of how productions work and the roles and responsibilities of people involved
- Experience of programme management across a complex and multi-layered landscape and excellent track record of delivering projects within budget and deadlines
- Experience of managing significant budgets and making the most of limited resources
- Demonstrable experience of developing and maintaining effective relationships with a wide range of partner organisations and individuals
- Proven ability to organise and prioritise a demanding workload working independently and effectively
- Experience of delivering participatory projects in social and/or educational contexts
- Experience of developing and producing projects in outdoor arts and/or spectacle
- An understanding of the arts and cultural sector locally, nationally and at a European level and extensive contacts within the sector locally
- An understanding of Local Authority, Statutory and Regulatory approvals processes relating to major outdoor events
- A full clean driving licence and use of a vehicle
- Salary: €28,000 per annum
- Contract: Full-time, from 1st September 2018 – 31st December 2020
- Hours: Standard hours Monday to Friday, but evenings and weekends will occasionally be required for which Time off in Lieu (TOIL) is offered by agreement of the ECD
- Location: Galway Community Circus Office, Galway City, Ireland - with occasional travel required across Ireland, and some international travel
- Holidays: 20 days paid holiday each year in addition to statutory bank holidays
- Probation Period: 6-Months
- Reporting to: Executive Creative Director and General Manager
