Welcome to the June edition of our newsletter

In his introduction to The Art of Reading book club, Laureate for Irish Fiction  Colm Tóibín says ‘Reading as much as writing is an art.  It requires a creative response to the text.  No book matters unless someone is reading it’.

In every part of the country, this vital connection between artist and audience member is being renewed day after day, evening after evening.

From Darndale to Dingle, people are returning in their droves to artistic events of the highest quality.

As I attend festivals and events throughout the country, I am more and more struck by the dedication to delivery of the highest quality performances for the widest possible public.  This commitment to standards of excellence makes for energizing encounters and it fills us with optimism for the recovery road ahead.

Since the last newsletter, we’ve published our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion   (EDI) toolkit and you’ll find more details about it within this newsletter. Please use this toolkit as a starting point.  It will necessarily evolve as we all grow our work in this area.  Many wonderful projects have been initiated in response to our EDI policy, and with your support and collaboration, we know that we can build in earnest on this progress in future years.

We know that the achievement of a more equitable, diverse and inclusive arts landscape is entirely possible.  We look forward to working with you to make this happen.
