This September, Laureate for Irish Fiction Anne Enright will deliver her annual lecture entitled The Count: what the figures say about being a female Irish writer today.

Speaking about the lecture, Anne Enright said, “This lecture is my first and last answer to that unanswerable question ‘what is it like to be a woman writing in the Irish tradition?’. It is an attempt to move beyond rhetoric and to look at some hard cold statistics about gender representation on the Irish writing scene. It is also a celebration of the change that has gathered pace in the last few years.”

Anne Enright is the inaugural Laureate for Irish Fiction and was awarded the honour by the Arts Council in early 2015. The Laureate for Irish Fiction promotes Irish literature nationally and internationally and encourage the public to engage with high quality Irish fiction. The Laureate for Irish Fiction has been developed by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon and is supported by University College Dublin (UCD), New York University (NYU) and The Irish Times.
